I never expected to win this because I was up against my colleague Radley Balko, who regularly uncovers incidents of prosecutorial misconduct. How many people do you know–honestly–who tangibly change the state of the world with their journalism?

I would like present you with the 1st annual Best RedEye Panelist Award. You are as brilliant in front of the camera as you are in print! No mean feat. Senator Howley 2010. President Howley 2016.
We’ll need damage control as many of your ironic statements on RedEye could be used out of context by your opponents.
